Dr. lucas brane

Dr. Lucas Brane is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Minerva Medical Group, a space medicine practice headquartered in Houston, Texas with operational presence in Brownsville and on-site support across commercial spaceflight, industrial, and remote operations worldwide. He founded Minerva to build a new kind of medical practice, one purpose-built for the operators, missions, and environments that conventional medicine was never designed to serve. Under his leadership, Minerva delivers tailored medical solutions to commercial spaceflight companies, industrial operators, and organizations conducting missions in austere and high-consequence environments. His work spans medical operations and advisory support across the commercial spaceflight ecosystem, occupational and industrial medicine for high-risk operators, and the development of medical infrastructure for remote and frontier environments.

Dr. Brane's approach to medicine and leadership was shaped by more than two decades of operational experience that began long before medical school. He gained his first understanding of medical care in difficult environments with Fox Company, 51st Infantry, Long Range Surveillance during the early years of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He completed U.S. Army Ranger School and applied those leadership lessons in real-world combat operations, experiences that continue to inform how he builds teams and approaches mission-critical decisions today. After transitioning to civilian life, he developed his understanding of emergency care in the prehospital and emergency department settings, working as an EMT and emergency room technician while completing his undergraduate and pre-medical training. He spent years in research laboratories studying cellular immunology and, separately, brain-computer-interface neuroprosthetics, where he developed a deep appreciation for the scientific rigor underlying evidence-based clinical practice. His enthusiasm for human spaceflight and his focus on medicine in difficult occupational environments grew out of his training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, where he recognized that the principles of human performance, recovery, and adaptation translate directly to the demands of extreme operational environments, including spaceflight.

Dr. Brane is a physician with specialized training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is embedded in the commercial human spaceflight industry as a clinician, advisor, and operator. He holds a SAM (System for Award Management) registration and is positioning Minerva as a veteran-owned small business to support direct engagement with federal aerospace and defense programs. His leadership philosophy is built on four principles he carries forward from his military service: lead from the front, never ask anything of your people you wouldn't first do yourself, take care of your personnel first so they are ready to execute the mission, and trust is difficult to earn and easy to lose, act accordingly. Through Minerva Medical Group, Dr. Brane is building the medical infrastructure required to support humans operating at the edges of habitation, from commercial spaceflight and industrial frontiers today, to lunar and long-duration operations on the horizon.
